I hope this is the correct forum to ask this question. When you use VDC Vault as 3rd offsite copy for your backups, but want to write archive data for 5 year retention to Azure (same datacentre) - what costs do you incur (ingress/egress/transactional costs) when writing it off to archive storage? I have heard rumours of an archive tier coming into VDC Vault?

Yes you can do this. If you have foundation edition of vault you’ll violate the fair use for egress so this would cost you, but not with Advanced. You’d be responsible for all Azure archive tier fees such as read/writes, egress bandwidth and storage at rest.

Thank you Michael - know anything about an archive tier for VDC Vault? Would make life a lot cheaper and simpler for such an solution.

Is posting on here o/k? We are actually going to be doing a webinar on this topic as part of our VUGSA. (Veeam User Group South Africa), will send out the webinar details to the whole community. When taking into consideration the egress/transaction fees and storage costs we realized it was actually just going to be cheaper to keep all the data in Vault and not write it off to the Azure archive tier. There is a couple of questions I am still researching and maybe the clever people of “product strategy/development” could add their voice: @Rick Vanover @Madi.Cristil - please add whom you think could comment please.

  1. Is the rumors' of the Veeam Vault Archive Tier true? And if so is there any information they can share with us?
  2. If above is true - will customers currently on Vault be able to offset some of their current Vault spend (when in a year term) to the archive tier?
  3. It is nearly impossible to POC Veeam Vault for mid sized businesses. I do understand there is a cost for Veeam involved to set up a Vault (even POC) infrastructure - but maybe Veeam can look at setting up a structure/process for a cheaper option for a “paid for POC”, with the same instance being then used by the customer and it becomes their production Vault?
  4. As far as I could find out there is no way to “upgrade” from “Foundation” to “Advanced” during your term?
  5. Why is Veeam Vault so cool……. Really, if you are reading this and have not looked at going this route - it makes so much sense from a technical as well as a business perspective.
