I am running Veeam V12 in a vSphere 7 environment and trying to upgrade to 12.3.2.4465. I mount the ISO, run setup and click Upgrade. The upgrade fails every time with the following message.

"An error has occurred: The system cannot open the device or file specified". I click ok to the message and the upgrade stops.

We identified

Possible OS or Windows Installer cache corruption.
Potential missing or inaccessible .msi files.
Potential ISO corruption or mounting issue.

Would it be possible to move to a virtual appliance  instead of preparing  a new Windows Server, install the same or newer version of Veeam Backup & Replication, and restore configuration backup to this new server?

Please advise.

Not a problem.  I am not sure when the migration option will be available, so doing a new Windows box might be the quickest way right now.

There will be a migration path from Windows to the VSA Appliance, but it is not there yet and is in testing.  If you want to start fresh you can do the VSA and set everything up again, otherwise for now unfortunately a new Windows box with the latest release of v12 then configuration restore.

You would not be able to restore the configuration backup from v12 to the VSA anyhow.

Hi @Nikks -

You cannot upgrade v12.0.0.1420 to .4465 unless you have the correct ISO from the following Veeam KB:

https://www.veeam.com/kb4696

See the following from the KB above:

Upgrade Info

Did you download & try the upgrade from the full ISO of Veeam from that KB?
