Hi team

I need to update the AWS user in Veeam Backup and Restore v12 for a scale out repository Archive to AWS Glacier - however we no longer have access to create an “Archive Applicance” due to new security restrictions in our AWS environments.

We only need to restore from this Glacier S3 archive - we are no longer writing to it.

Is there a way to update the SOBR account credentials without using the wizard which forces the “Archive Appliance” setup?

I think it may be failing on that step when I try to finish the wizard.

Thanks

Aaron

I believe that is a requirement and no way around it.  Maybe support can suggest something or check the forums to see if anyone else asked the question.

Ok thanks Chris - I have an open ticket with support currently - but no response.

I’ll see if there are logs produced from that wizard - maybe the error

“Failed to modify object stored repository”

was caused by something else.

It is possible but would keep on the support ticket for sure.  Best of luck and let us know what happens.

Actually if you look at the following link below the symbol on your repository indicates it is in maintenance mode.  Maybe that is why it errors?

Good eyes that was from me trying to see if it would help. Same issue in / out of maintenance mode.

Oh ok. Well support is the best avenue now.

From the Veeam Help Guide: “An archiver appliance is an auxiliary instance that is necessary for transferring the data from Amazon S3 to Amazon S3 Glacier”. Based on this is appears you have to have this appliance if you want to read or write data to S3 Glacier.

Now, you only mention that security wants the ability to create archiver appliances restricted. This should still work, as there are permissions you can specific for the Veeam IAM account:

Immutability Disabled and Archiver Appliance Configured Beforehand

or

Immutability Enabled and Archiver Appliance Configured Beforehand

In the “Specify Archiver Appliance” section of the repository setup, do you have the ability to select an existing appliance, or to disable the appliance entirely?
