doing a trial version as thinking of switch to the linux hosted server but have run into an issue while testing. While setting up the backup it said preferred method was certificate for authentication for backups which I did and the backup works just fine. Now comes the fun part I cannot restore back to the windows PC, the browse and OK buttons are greyed out. If I choose other location I have to pick SSH for authentication which I am confused about, anyway I can restore the file to the veeam server and copy it back but that's a very ugly way to do things. What am I missing here or failed to setup properly?

@DaleL - Welcome to the Community.

Needing a bit more info on what you’re using & doing. Are you using Veeam Backup & Replication Community (free) Edition? Is it installed on Windows? Or, are you using Veeam Agent for Windows Free Edition?

What Job did you configure? VMs? Physical? File Server? If you can provide more details hopefully we can help.

Best.

Are you trying to do an FLR restore for files in the Windows PC?  Do you have the agent installed on the Windows PC that points to the VBR server to do backups, or does the VBR server manage the agent?

A little more detail here will help a ton as right now, I am not sure what to make of your question or have any helpful suggestions.

Sorry veeam backup and replication installed in Rocky Linux, trial version of 13. Repository hosted on Linux server, backup a windows 10 laptop via agent. Back was setup under protection group and during the setup of the back up it suggested certificate authentication for ease of restores so I set it up that way. Set Backup for Sunday night and it ran with no issues, today I thought lets test a file restore so click the restore go through the steps and pick guest files, loads the backup I pick the file and from that point the “browse” and “OK” buttons are greyed out. so quickly googled that and tried a bunch of option like chose different location but for authentication I had two options both SSH. I did restore the file to a local folder on the linux server but would prefer to restore it back to its original location or in 13 is that not possible. I remember using commvault years ago and I had to restore separate files to a different location and copy them over.

You should be able to do FLR to the original location.  I remember seeing the grayed out buttons in another topic, let me see if I can find out the solution if there was one.

Quick question - are you using the WebUI for the restore operation?  Did you try the Windows Console on another system connected to the VBR server?  The console has many more features including the explorers needed for FLR.

using the console from a windows machine, I found the web UI lacking.

Oh, ok.  Not sure what the issue is, then maybe a support ticket is best now?

Hi @DaleL , di you set windows mount server on repository? Because on 13 is set linux as default, but windows mount server needs to be defined. Otherwise you are not able to do file level restore on widnows.

Yep...forgot about this. When adding Repos...a lotta folks (me included sometimes) just click “next-next-next” and not worry about the Mount Server setting. I agree here @DaleL . Look at your Mount Server and make sure it’s a Windows server and not a Linux (VBR) server. If you don’t have a Windows Server added to VBR yet, just create a simple one (VM?), and add it under Managed Servers. When doing so, I recommend installing the Deployment Kit on the Windows Server first so you don’t use credentials to add the Windows Server to VBR. Installing Deployment Kit allows cert-based authentication to VBR. Just create the Kit in the VBR Console, download the package files, copy them onto the Windows Server, then run the quick install. Then add Windows to your VBR.

See here to deploy Deployment Kit:

Also, Marcel wrote a nice brief article on it too! 😊

Best.
