Question

Restore a VMWare VM to Hyper-V

Simple question, but I don’t think this is possible from reading up about this, there is a great video on migrating, but I think this assumes you still have the old VMWare infrastructure as well as your destination Hyper-V. So, the question is then, can you restore a full backup of a VMWare VM, onto Hyper-V? Assume pre-reqs like removing vmware tools are taken care of, but the actual conversion to Hyper-V can this be done without running your source VMW environment?

Hi @alan.thompson

You can restore a VMware VM via instant recovery to a Hyper-V Server.

For sure, we do it all the time, just follow the prereqs. We did need to script the tool removal. There’s a post out there somewhere from me on it.

Thanks, I think - but does this not require the existing VMWare infrastructure to be running also?

No it doesn´t because you are restoring from a backup and not replicating an existing VM
