Replication of a hyper-v Virtual Machine in which SQL Server is running

Userlevel 3

Hello,

I would like to know if it is recommended to use  Veeam Buckup and Replication Standard to replicate a hyper-v virtual machine in which sql server is running.

Thanks

No problem, I strongly suggest enabling application-aware processing in the job.

See: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/hyperv/replica_vss_application_hv.html?ver=110

Yeah, is it possible! Best practices that I ever take:

  • First replication on an outside hour production;
  • No low minutes in the first replications;
  • Backup before replication ever.

Hi akd79,

I have done this many times never had any issues and have tested a lot too. As @haslund has pointed out very important to turn on application aware so that VSS is leveraged in Windows so that the database is a “ready” state for backup. Otherwise I believe it would be in “crash consistent” state, like pulling the plug.

cheers
