Missing Application Permissions

Missing application permissions: Exchange.ManageAsApp. Public folder and discovery search mailboxes will be skipped from processing, and a shared mailbox type will not be identified.

I have a fully licensed version of Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 (not the community edition) which I recently upgradded to version 8.1.  Since then I’m getting this message.  I tried to put in a support ticket but that doesn’t work so I thought I’d try here.

I have already followed the instructions on https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbo365/guide/ad_app_permissions_sd.html?ver=80 where I assigned Global Reader to the Veeam App ID but I still get the error message.

Useful suggestions gratefully received.

Got an answer from support in the end, I had to create a new application which gave the software the opportunity to set things up so they worked.

Hi @An admin- -

Welcome to the Community. Aside from checking the Guide, which it appears you’ve tried, I just recommend continuing to try and work with Support. They should be able to get you going. If not, create a post on the Forums with your support case # so Veeam Product Managers can chime in and maybe help. Maybe someone can also chime in here as well who may have had this issue.

Keep us posted how it goes.

Best.

Hi @An admin- and welcome!

This posts should address the issue:

After upgrade to 8.0.2.159 - R&D Forums

No backups of user and shared mailboxes since 7.0.0.4385 - R&D Forums

Basically you have to check the licensing in M365, that is often a cause of trouble. Either way I agree with Shane to open a support ticket to address this - at least you are paying for that so this can be the easiest way.

Best

Lukas

I have not been able to create a ticket since the support page doesn’t offer the option to select the product I have a licence for.

I already gave the appID the Global reader role.

This fails when it tries to connect to EWS, “the impersonation principal name is invalid”

“revalidate the organization:
right click edit the organization.onmicrosoft.com, Next Next Next
Install the Application certificate that corresponds to the Application ID.
Under the Install button, there is this checkbox:
"Grant this application required permissions and register its certificate in Azure AD".
Please check it. Next Finish. Finish revalidating the organization, make sure that all components are green”

This all worked until I did the upgrade...

Did you check the links I shared and did they help?

In case not I suggest to open a support ticket as Shane suggested.

I’ve alrady tried the suggestions on those links, they don’t work.

I have not been able to create a ticket since the support page doesn’t offer the option to select the product I have a licence for.

I put in a ticket for the closest item on the list, hopefully that will get me to the right place.
