Hi all,

I want to update Veeam Agent for Windows from 6.3.2.1205 to 6.3.2.1302. The in place upgrade doesnt’t work:

Will my backup job settings be safe when I uninstall the current installed agent and reinstall the new version of Veeam Agent for Windows?

Kind Regards

Hi @TheExpert,

Can you please try to run the update from the Veeam Agent GUI (Control Panel)? When you go to “About” in the main menu the Agent should be checking for updates and offer to upgrade the version.

Maybe give it a shot.

Best regards

Lukas

The download doesn’t work. I have this message:

Here it says that the configurattion won’t be affected by uninstalling the Veeam Agent. Is this true? I don’t want to lose these setttings. I’m using the FREE version of the agent so there’s no central management.

Hi @TheExpert, I do not currently have the an agent running and cannot reproduce this. I would say create a backup and try! If the screenshot you shared above is from a Veeam KB, I would go ahead with the update. As you can see from the last sentence, your backup and job settings will not be affected.

Hi @TheExpert -

Yes...you can uninstall the VAW Agent and then install it manually. It’s how VAW interacts with the system to perform the backup. The settings for VAW are in the VAW database...so you should be good there. At the very least, perform a backup of the system before attempting the uninstall/reinstall. I assume this is a physical device and thus a snapshot can’t be ran as Christian suggetsed? If it is is a VM, by all means, run a backup as well as create a snapshot before attempting the uninstall/reinstall of the Agent.

Let us know how it goes.

Best.

Based on this you can see it says the settings are saved on uninstall so I would go that direction.

OK, thank you. I can confirm that the settings of the agent will be safe with uninstalling teh old version and installing the new version. I don’t know why this minor update has to be done this way. All former updates did an upgrade without first uninstalling the agent.

Glad to hear it upgraded manually for you at least.

Yeah...maybe just something Veeam needs to modify and maybe forgot to? Not sure. Maybe worth sharing with the Veeam PMs over on the Forums to inquire if this behavior is normal in moving forward, or a bug, etc.

Good to hear you were able to get the update done and yes, it is unusual for it to be this way for this minor patch.  I use the agent on my laptop daily and never had an issue with updating it for each release/patch.  I am now on the v13 agent with the VSA, and it works well.

Upgrading from 6.3.1.x is possible without uninstalling the agent first. But if you have already version 6.3.2.x running you have first to uninstall the agent before instaling 6.3.2.1302!

Well that is not intuitive at all as you should just be able to patch.  Hopefully they address this in the next release.  Be sure to post on the Forums or add to a post if someone already has about this.
