Helper Appliance for Windows VM

Hi,

I am trying to restore a file from a Veeam backup for one of our Windows file servers, but it looks like Veeam treating the VM as a linux agent and is asking me to set up a helper appliance. I tested another file server, and it works as usual without requiring one. I have also ran rescan on the hyper-v and the VM is showing up as MS windows server 2019 in the inventory.

Do you have any suggestions on what might be causing this?

Thank you!

Hi @sghosh - that’s odd behavior. Does that file server have dedup enabled by chance? Maybe your mount server doesn’t have dedup enabled if so and thus why you’re not able to restore. Or, is VBR explicitly saying you need a Helper? I’ve never heard of this behavior so probably best to contact support, especially since normal behavior was encountered with your other file server during a restore.

Best.

Hi @sghosh could you possibly share a screenshot and list the steps you've done to get there?
