Hello Veeam People,

I have problems with opening Guest File Restore from Backups.
I’m trying to configure some restores for our Revit Server scenarios.

The problem is that I choose which point I want, proced to browse the files and then I’m stuck with the following popup window:

What can be the issue here, I checked the Mount Server, it’s the VMs where our Repos are connected via iSCSi.

Windows Server VMs

Thank you in advance.

Hi @NemanjaJanicic -

I know it can take a bit for the Backup Browser window to open sometimes. But I assume it’s taking longer than normal to open?

If you do a test file restore for some other Job...not your “Revit” job, do you get the same behavior? Unless someone else has experienced similar behavior and can chime in, your best bet...aside from purusing the log files...is to contact Veeam Support to help resolve. Restore logs can be found on the Veeam Server in C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup & Replication

Best.

You could also check the Resource Monitor on the mount server to see if theres any disk activity coming from the restore points. Sometimes the session looks stuck, but the mount is actually happening in the background and just taking longer than expected. If you see active reads, it might just be a matter of waiting and reviewing your storage performance or policy.

But if theres no activity at all, then we can look into the other points, like the transport service on the mount server, FLR drivers, or trying another mount server to isolate the issue.

Hello @coolsport00 ,

Previous week I manage to open backup pretty fast, but after that, every other tries just “loads” it forever. Even 2 days and still nothing.

A large vm on a slower storage can take a while to be mounted. How big is the vm you are trying to restore from? What is the underlying repository? You mentioned iscsi vms, are they using san or nas storage? Sometimes the files can be just browsed manually from a mount server, typically it is here: C:\VeeamFLR

Hello @matheusgiovanini ,

Thanks for the comment, yes I will check this.
Mount Servers are configured on the Backup Repositories settings?

Hello @kira.bezhanova,

The VM that I’m trying to access is around 250gbs. We allocated more (1.5TB), but it’s 90% free space.
Underlying repositories are Synology NAS’s

Hi @NemanjaJanicic

Check if there is any useful information in the FLR restore job log and write it here.
Logs for jobs, components and services - the %ProgramData%\Veeam\Backup

You are on VMware, right?

Hello @Link State,

I will check for logs and put it here. No, we are on Hyper-V

Can you ensure that all the antivirus exclusions are in place on your mount server? I’ve seen virus scanning significantly slow down both backup and restore operations before.

Yes, you should edit the pool used in the job and change the “Mount Server” option.

Agreed with Tommy here. You should check av exclusions, firewall ports and permissions (https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/required_permissions.html?ver=120).

OIf that doesn’t help the best idea would be to reach out to Veeam Support.

Hello people,

Problem is that our mount servers are the Windows Server VMs acting as a backup repository.
Storage (Synology NAS) is attached via iSCSI, formatted as ReFS with 64kb. It doesn’t want to mount the disk, don’t know exactly why.

When I tested with reconfiguring the mount server to a Hyper-V Host without any iscsi storage etc, it worked.

Are there any configurations that we can do to make it work since our Backup Repos have the amount of free space to restore some files.
Our File Server is 15TBs, I can’t restore it to Hyper-V Host since it doesn’t have the sufficient free spsace etc.

I had a similar problem on a file server and as a workaround I installed Windows Agent on the file server. Run a test to see if it works in your case too. Then open a support case. Keep us updated. Have you had a chance to check the logs of the FRL job that fails to see if there are any errors that could be useful for troubleshooting?
Best regards

This issue probably occurs because your Windows VM acting as the mount server has an active ReFS volume over iSCSI, which is being used as a Veeam repository.
This causes disk locking and prevents Veeam from mounting guest disks for FLR.

Also, you can open a case with Veeam Support for deeper analysis.

Hello @Link State ,

I’m trying to find specific logs for those problems. It’s a lot to process and find it.
Do you know a file name log maybe for FLR?

logs are in C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Backup\FLRSessions

if you press button “restore”
