I create a file level job backup and only need to backup .xls files like below picture
But when the job is running, why my backup consume more than 300GB? Actually when i filter in the machine, all xls files under E:\ is not more than 50 GB.
Capacity of my E drive is 7.4TB and now the job say is 5% progress which mean the VBR like backup all entire disk without any file filtering.
Anyone know why?

Hi @hs08 -
Are you using an old version of Excel? The more current versions of Excel for several yrs now has a file extension of .xlsx, not .xls. If your Excel files do have .xlsx extension...this is why. Veeam can’t find any files with just .xls. Can you verify?
You’re correct with only needing an “inclusion mask” to just backup specific files, as the Guide above uses an example of only wanting to backup PDF files. The example only has *.PDF in the inclusion. You just need to verify the actual file extension of the files you want to backup is correct.
Lastly...did you see the NOTE at the end of that User Guide section? It states that “masks are case sensitive”. So, if your actual file extensions are in all CAPS, you need to make sure your mask is also in CAPS (e.g. *.XLSX).
Let me know if any of these suggestions help.
Best.
Hi @coolsport00
Yes i know the newer excel file have .xlsx ext, but now i want to backup only *.xls.
We can see the total *.xls file is 130 GB (sorry wrong mention on previous post), below picture taken by treesize installed in the source server.
The current progress backup is 5% and total vbk file now more than 300GB.
There is possibility when i specify *.xls the VBR will include for *.xlsx also?
hi @coolsport00
I think i have the answer, the file filter is not work if we specify the drive.
We can see below, the filter only work if we specify the folder. Let me try and update here
Oh, ok. You didn't mention you were using the Agent to backup.
