Question

Failed to call RPC function

I hope you can help me with the following problem.

When I perform a sure backup (Backup verification mode: Backup content verification  and content scan only), I get the following message in the log:

Error: Failed to call RPC function 'FcCheckFilesystemIsAccessible': The volume does not contain a recognized file system. Please make sure that all required file system drives are loaded and that the volume is still corrupted.

The email notification I receive indicates that the verification was successful.

My question is why I'm getting this warning and how can I resolve it?

Here are some specifications of our server:

Veeam Backup & Replication Build 12.3.2.4156

Backup server runs on a Hyper-v

Hyper-v: Windows Server 2025 24H2 Build 26100.7171

Bare metal: Windows Server 2022 21H2 Build 20348.4405

Hopefully you can help me with this.

Best regards,

Jordy

Hi Jordy,

This will need a Support Case

The error message at face value tells it all: the filesystem you’re trying to mount for the verification test is not recognized by the mount server.

However, there can be a lot of specifics for this (e.g., there are many ReFS versions, and they’re not cross compatible across Windows versions), so it’s really best to let Veeam Support review the situation and they can give you a targeted answer as to where the incompatibility resides.

Hi Jordy,

Agreed with the comment above, you should open a support case.

When you can do and write down the info into the case:

  • Are all required disks (system drive C and potential data drives D, E, etc.) included in the backup?
  • What kind of OS do you use for the guest systems and what OS is you Veeam running on (including all subcomponents like mount server etc.)?
  • Since when does the issue occure?

Please keep in mind that even with a Veeam support ticket it might be the case that you backup simply isn’t recoverable. That’s one of the reasons SureBackup was invented - to figure this out. This is extremely rare but I’d just like to point it out.

This would have to be investigated ofc.

Best
