Discrepancy between pkginfo VeeamPluginforOracleRMAN version info and Oracle RMAN backup run info

Hi,

This is a last resort post of sort as I can’t find any information on what is the expected scenario.

On Solaris, our plugins were recently upgraded and pkginfo shows below with Version - 12.3.2.4165

$: pkginfo -l VeeamPluginforOracleRMAN
PKGINST: VeeamPluginforOracleRMAN
NAME: Veeam Plug-in for Oracle RMAN
CATEGORY: application,system
ARCH: SPARC
VERSION: 12.3.2.4165
BASEDIR: /opt
VENDOR: Veeam Software Group GmbH
PSTAMP: 501cb4f0240920251001193914
INSTDATE: Dec 04 2025 14:01
STATUS: completely installed
FILES: 8 installed pathnames
2 directories
5 executables
190948 blocks used (approx)

In the RMAN log, it shows

comment=API Version 2.0,MMS Version 12.3.0.54

Question is should the RMAN log be showing 12.3.2.4165 as well or it doesn’t matter or did we mess up somewhere during the upgrade and it is actually a failed upgrade regardless of pkginfo information?

Checking /opt/veeam/VeeamPluginforOracleRMAN/libOracleRMANPlugin.so still shows an old date of Nov 2024.

Any advise will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi @Ed4232

I honestly don't know what MMS version you are referring to because there is no version 12.3.0.54 in Veeam, as you can see in offical page here

Well @Ed4232 ...the 2nd screenshot shows a Veeam API version it looks like...not VBR version. Does everything run ok in RMAN? Are you still able to use the Veeam Plugin ok?

If not, you might want to reach out to Veeam Support.

Best.

Thanks for referring the official page link.

I am not sure either.

It is the information that is in the Oracle RMAN log whenever an Oracle database backup is ran as below.

I wasn’t the one who managed / install / upgrade the plugins. I do have access to the logs and it shows something like below:

I can only assume that maybe 12.3.0.54 = 12.3.0.310?

From the log, it looks like the SysAdmin has done something weird or did a rollback of sort without using the proper steps maybe. I will have to check some previous backup logs then whether it shows 12.3.2.X.

Hi,

The SysAdmin supposedly upgraded the plugin to the latest version. And then we started to have performance issues on the server. I am not sure what step/s he has followed to do the upgrade.

He may not have done so correctly and did not follow the correct steps. According to him he has NOT done any rollback and as per the output from the pkginfo command.

However, checking the log, it shows below which makes me think he has done a rollback. I will have to discuss further with them to make un-install and re-install.

[04.12.2025 12:27:03.424] < 1> plugin_co| Module version: 12.3.0.310

[04.12.2025 18:30:32.838] < 1> plugin_co| Module version: 12.3.2.4165
[04.12.2025 19:00:44.368] < 1> plugin_co| Module version: 12.3.2.4165
[04.12.2025 19:05:55.359] < 1> plugin_co| Module version: 12.3.2.4165
[04.12.2025 19:45:36.595] < 1> plugin_co| Module version: 12.3.0.310
[04.12.2025 19:47:24.245] < 1> plugin_co| Module version: 12.3.0.310
[04.12.2025 21:15:50.468] < 1> plugin_co| Module version: 12.3.0.310

Everything run OK in RMAN at the moment with Module version: 12.3.0.310 although a bit confusing that the Oracle RMAN backup log shows 12.3.0.54 and then pkginfo shows a different version as well. We probably have to get them to do a full re-install of some sort.

@Ed4232 -

Ok...so at least the backups are working still. Not sure why installing the Plugin would cause RMAN backup performance issues. The Plugin is just that..a Plugin. It provides buttons and menus incorporated in RMAN to be able to see your Veeam infrastructure components to send your RMAN backups to. That’s really it. I don’t think performing an uninstall/reinstall would hurt anything; but, at the very least, you could reach to Veeam Support with any further questions or concerns you may have. Keep us posted how it goes.

Best.

Yeah it is real weird. The plugin upgrade was the only one that has happened when we start having performance issue. The performance issue is not on the RMAN backup itself but to the server as a whole. After the plugin upgrade and whenever the RMAN backup run which is just an archivelog backup, the server start having performance issue and performance is back to normal after the RMAN backup. So we decided to downgrade the plugin supposedly as evidence from the Veeam log although pkginfo somehow still shows the new version. I have to really get into the bottom of this with the SysAdmin. Also need to investigate further on Andanet’s note about 12.3.0.54 which is not a version listed in the official page.

Thanks everyone for your comment. I will update this page for what happens next.
