V13 Support

While we enter this interstitial period between v13 (Veeam Software Appliance support) and upcoming 13.0.1 supporting (complete Data Platform, including traditional Windows-based Backup Server), we’ve decided to support both v12 and v13 calculations -- leaving the choice in your hands on how you want to design your projects.

What’s different?

Well, as with any great software release, there comes new features, and performance/architectural optimizations. v13 is no exception!

I’m not going to reinvent the wheel and rewrite the What’s New and Release Notes here, but the initial key changes in the calculator affect results for:

  • Resource requirements for the aforementioned v13 Veeam Software Appliance
  • and, storage requirements for Immutability Architecture Improvements denoted in the “What’s New” guide (p. 25)

How do I enable it?

There are 2 spots you’ll want to take note of in the main Calculator:

  1. Top-right of the “Data Center” (or Veeam Data Cloud Vault) section, you will notice a new select bar allowing you to choose which version you’d like the calculators to use:
Select whether you want the calculator to assume v12 or v13 logic...

  2. And, under the “Backup Server” tab, you’ll notice an option to size for the new v13 virtual software appliance:
Enabling this switch performs the calculation assuming the new appliance.
Note: Turning it to off assumes the standard backup sizing logic of v12 for the time being.

And then for Scenario Builder, you simply enable it or disable it in your setup…

  1. Under “Scenario Setup”, enable v13 support under General Settings:
Enable v13 support for your scenario...
Note: Virtual appliance isn’t optional yet.
  • Note: If you have existing scenarios, they will import assuming previous version (v12)

At-a-glance workload detail

(Scenario Builder)

Maybe not as exciting to write home about as support for v13, but when you have a large multi-workload project, being able to have a quick glance at the inputs of your workload without having to open the details window is a nice little quality-of-life improvement.

In step 4 of Scenario Builder, Build Workloads, you can now mouseover the detail button to get a quick breakdown of how you’ve defined that workload.

  • You can now mouseover the detail button to get a breakdown of how you’ve defined your workload.

That’s all for now. As with always, we love to hear your feedback on how we can make these tools even better. Otherwise, stay tuned & happy calculating!
