Why Veeam 13 Subscription's Home Lab Wont Configure?

I enrolled in a Veeam 13 subscription course, but the lab setup instructions appear to be based on a 2023 recording and an older ESXi licensing model. Because of that, the setup options shown in the course no longer work as presented, which makes it difficult or impossible to complete the home lab as expected. On top of that, I can clearly see the training is v12 = false advertising.

The reason for the failure comes when I install VCSA. The error shows the license used in ESXi is invalid however I followed the instructions in the training and the instructor downloaded the same software as I. Conclusion is the material and training is old but sold as some new amazing thing.

I contacted support by email, used the chatbot, and reviewed the help section, but I have still not received a response after 78 hours.

My concern is not just the delay in support, but that this course is still being sold even though the lab guidance appears outdated. At minimum, this should be clearly disclosed before purchase, and ideally the course should be updated or buyers offered corrected lab instructions. I’m sharing this so other customers are aware before spending money on training that may no longer match the current platform requirements.

Hi, what course was this? Was it provided by Veeam or a third-party?

Hi @MrRichard ...as Michael stated...can you share more about the specific course(s) you’re referring to? Can you share what site you went to and what Course(s) specifically you’re referring to (by name), please?

Chris has tagged the Veeam Global & Certification Manager. But to help her better answer your concern, please provide additional information.

Thank you.

Hi Michael, The course is called Veeam University Pro Partner Subscription. The course includes access for a year with training on VBR, VRO and Veeam One.  My issue: Before any lectures, there are 28 videos to set up the home lab so that later lectures make sense and I can go through on the home lab. In 2023 when the course was made, it seems the licenses for ESXi were able to be used but now are not so when I go to install VCSA, the error I get says the esxi license or version prohibits execution of requested operation. I guess i can try version 7 as I was trying V 8. Just want to get the lab setup to get going. I appreciate your time. Thanks

Hi @MrRichard -

Ok, so those courses are official Veeam Courses, but they are created by a 3rd party company called Tsunati. The 2023 Course of VBR (v12), I (& Chris above) were actually a part of a team that piloted it before release. I’m sure some of the v12 VBR Course was retained where appropriate, but then added some content specific to v13 (VSA & other v13 features of VBR). I have yet to take the v13 VBR Course, or VRO & VONE Courses. I would assume most of the content is new though. The VONE & VRO Courses are actually new...so those should solely be for v13.

Hopefully the Tsunati folks will eventually respond back to your message; and/or hopefully Federica can give you some further insights too.

As far as your vSphere version issues go, that I believe is more a function of the downfall of Broadcom and they’re new licensing model moreso than a problem with the Veeam training. And version 8.x of vSphere was kind of the beginning of that licensing transition Broadcom implemented. So be aware of that. Using VMW v7 should work for you though.

Best.
