Veeam M365 Version Upgrade Guide – Step by Step

Introduction

Upgrading Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 is important to keep your environment secure, stable, and compatible with the latest Microsoft 365 services. In this guide, we will walk through the complete step-by-step process to upgrade Veeam M365 safely and smoothly.

Before You Start

Check Current Version

Open the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 Console and verify your current build version.

Navigate to:

Download Latest Version

Download the latest ISO or setup package from the official Veeam website:

Pre-Upgrade Checklist

Before starting the upgrade, complete the following checks:

  • Take configuration backup
  • Verify repository health
  • Stop running backup jobs
  • Ensure enough disk space
  • Check Windows updates
  • Verify administrator permissions
  • Confirm compatible operating system

Step 1 – Disable Running Jobs

Open the Veeam M365 Console.

  1. Go to Jobs
  2. Right-click active jobs
  3. Select Disable

This prevents job interruption during upgrade.

Step 2 – Backup Configuration Database

Always take a backup before upgrading.

If Using Local PostgreSQL

Backup location generally:

Use pgAdmin or PostgreSQL backup utility.

If Using Remote SQL/PostgreSQL

Ask DBA team to perform full database backup.

Step 3 – Stop Veeam Services

Open Services.msc

Stop the following services:

  • Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 Service
  • Veeam Broker Service
  • Veeam RESTful API Service

Step 4 – Mount or Extract Upgrade ISO

  1. Right-click ISO
  2. Select Mount
  3. Open mounted drive

Step 5 – Start Upgrade Wizard

The installer automatically detects the existing installation.

Click:

Accept license agreement and continue.

Step 06 – Enable Backup Jobs

  1. Go to Jobs
  2. Right-click disabled jobs
  3. Click Enable
  4. Run one test backup
