EnablingĀ Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) or Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is the best way to protect accounts from password theft or phishing. Therefore it’s recommended to enable such options, when they’re available. Since some time it’s possible to use MFA for Veeam Accounts, which areĀ used to access the my.veeam.com portal or also the Veeam CommunityĀ šŸ˜‰

LoginĀ to your Veeam account atĀ my.veeam.comĀ and click on edit profile in the top right corner.

At the bottom of your profile details, you need to click on ā€œEnable MFAā€. As a side note, even after enabling MFA this link still states ā€œEnableā€ instead of ā€œDisableā€.

On the following page, you need to click on ā€œSet up authenticator applicationā€ and follow the instructions. While FreeOTP or Google Authenticator are recommended, you can use any other OTP app; for example I’m using Aegis.

Ā

Afterwards it’s recommended to create recovery authentication codes, for the case that your MFA app isn't available. Of course you should not store those codes together with your password.

More details on this procedure can be found inĀ KB4716.

Lately it feels like I spend more time using authenticator apps than I do on actual workĀ šŸ˜‚

But regardless, it’s great to see MFA in more places, it really is vital to security these days.

This is great and time to enable MFA.Ā  Nice to see this in the Veeam Portal now.

Me too! Hahaha. But it's really important—I have like 100 MFAs, but I know I'm safer than before!

Security may feel inconvenient at times, but when you receive a notification about a login attempt, you’ll be glad you had it in place.
