Getting quick and accurate answers to technical questions can make all the difference. Have you used Veeam Intelligence, an AI-powered chatbot that helps users resolve common issues and answer questions related to Veeam products?

Designed to simplify your experience with Veeam’s suite of tools, Veeam Intelligence offers quick, reliable responses based on Veeam’s comprehensive technical documentation. In this blog, we’ll walk you through what Veeam Intelligence is, how it works, its limitations, and how to use it effectively.

What is Veeam Intelligence?

Veeam Intelligence is a virtual assistant integrated directly into the Veeam Backup & Replication console. Using advanced machine learning and natural language processing, this chatbot provides real-time support for a variety of common Veeam-related queries. Whether you need help creating replication jobs, figuring out where your backup logs are stored, or ensuring your virtual machines (VMs) are properly backed up, Veeam Intelligence is here to help.

This tool supports multiple languages and can handle both basic and complex questions, making it useful for users at any skill level.

Limitations of Veeam Intelligence

While Veeam Intelligence is a handy tool, there are a few things to keep in mind:

  1. Question Limit: Veeam Intelligence allows up to 30 questions per 24 hours. Once this limit is reached, you won’t be able to ask more questions until the next 24-hour period. But don’t worry, you can continue using it after that cooldown.
  2. OS Requirements: Veeam Intelligence is not available on Windows Server 2012. You’ll need at least Windows Server 2012 R2 or a later version.
  3. Internet Connection: To use Veeam Intelligence, your server running the Veeam Backup & Replication Console must have an active internet connection.
  4. Licensing: A paid license or evaluation license (with a support contract) is required. If you're using the Community Edition or NFR license, you won’t have access to Veeam Intelligence.
  5. Security: For security reasons, it’s best not to share sensitive or confidential information with the chatbot, as your queries are processed externally. Veeam cannot guarantee the accuracy of the information it provides.
  6. Service Overload: If Veeam Intelligence experiences high demand, there may be delays or issues with processing your requests.

How to Use Veeam Intelligence

Getting started with Veeam Intelligence is easy. Here’s how you can use it:

  1. Accessing Veeam Intelligence:
    • Open the Veeam Backup & Replication Console.
    • Click the Veeam Intelligence button in the upper-right corner of the window to launch the chatbot interface.
  2. Asking Questions:
Type your question in the chat window, such as:
    • “How do I create a replication job?”
    • “Where are Veeam Backup & Replication logs stored?”
    • “How do I change my Veeam license?”
    • “How can I ensure my VMs are backed up regularly and securely?”

Once you’ve typed your question, hit Send or press Enter. The chatbot will reply with helpful answers based on Veeam’s knowledge base.

  1. Managing the Chat Window:
    • You can move the chat window around the console to position it wherever is most convenient.
    • If you need to step away, simply minimize the window to preserve the conversation.
    • To start fresh, click Close or Plus to clear the conversation.
  2. Enhanced Responses:
Veeam Intelligence provides answers in Markdown format, along with links to relevant documentation and KB articles. While it doesn’t support screenshots, you’ll still have direct access to official resources.
  3. Contextual Conversations:
If the first answer isn’t quite what you need, simply add more details. The chatbot remembers your previous questions and keeps the conversation context intact, so you won’t need to repeat yourself.

Disabling Veeam Intelligence

If your company has security policies or preferences that prevent using Veeam Intelligence, you can disable it by modifying the registry on the backup server.

Here’s how you can disable it:

  1. Open Registry Editor on your server.
  2. Navigate to the following registry key:
  3. HKLM\Software\Veeam\Veeam Backup and Replication
  4. Create a DWORD value called AIAssistantDisabled and set it to 1.

This will disable Veeam Intelligence in your environment.

Important Considerations

Before using Veeam Intelligence, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Licensing: Make sure you have the correct license (paid or evaluation) to use the chatbot.
  • Security: Avoid sharing any sensitive or confidential information with the chatbot, as it processes your queries externally.
  • Service Availability: Veeam Intelligence is frequently updated, but there may be occasional interruptions in service.

For the latest information, always refer to Veeam’s knowledge base articles or official updates about Veeam Intelligence.

Veeam Intelligence is a powerful, AI-driven assistant that greatly enhances the Veeam Backup & Replication experience. Thanks for taking the time and effort to produce this script.

Although I know it would be a huge additional undertaking, would you consider a similar partner script that reports on items that don’t match this standard. We could then run it against existing installations to work out where we’re going wrong (and hopefully correct) rather than having to rebuild the app server from scratch.

Cheers, Rob.
