Using Terraform + Ansible to build an automated home lab Veeam environment

Hey Everyone,

I had a few queries the last few weeks about the VeeamLab terraform code that has not been updated for 3-4 years… it made me jump in and start something again but this time I wanted to take what @Chris.Arceneaux had built with the Ansible Playbooks and that he posted the other week and combine that with some Terraform code.

This is not finished and only applicable right now for vSphere environments but there is a plan and hopefully over the next few weeks and months we can get some of these complete for AWS and Microsoft Azure as well.

Great initiative and love everything automation.  Will check this out to test in the lab.

Interesting reading Michael.

As per your ending comment, we’ve been interested in using TF and Ansible for a while to manage backup plans in Veeam. We currently do this with Powershell scripts, but IaC based playbooks would be a much better solution.

Where I see this issue is creating the right interface between those components and Veeam. Using the current Veeam API’s would take a fair amount of effort, which I’m guessing why there’s never been a mainstream solution come from the community.

Cheers, Rob.
