On Tuesday, September 8th, VUG France gathered in person at Scality's offices in Paris for an afternoon full of insights and discussions.
This was my first in-person event as a VUG Leader (and Veeam partner), and I was thrilled to meet and connect with some of you!

2026: A pivotal year for Veeam with AI integration
We covered several strategic topics:
- VDC, including Veeam Intelligent ResOps for VCD and M365
- The transition from VDP to VSA
What's new in Veeam 13.1
- Hypervisors: added support for Sangfor aSV, XCP-ng, XenServer, VergeIO, Platform9, and Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization
- Application-aware backup via NFS shares
- Native restoration of an entire AD forest directly from Veeam, an operation that previously required around forty manual steps
- Significant reduction in the number of required communication ports
- Automatic updates to stay ahead of security threats without impacting business operations
- MFA support added to secure VBR connections

Regulatory compliance: LPM, NIS2, DORA
We discussed these new regulations and how to implement them effectively with Veeam across IT environments.
Vates presentation: an open-source alternative to VMware
Vates offers an open-source virtualization platform, making it easier for organizations looking to move away from VMware:
- XCP-ng: their hypervisor
- Xen Orchestra: a web interface for managing VMs
- XOSTOR: a shared storage system, similar to vSAN
Real-world feedback
We heard a great case study on a VBR-to-VSA migration from a company managing nearly 70 VBR servers. The verdict: undeniable performance gains!
Quiz and networking
The afternoon wrapped up with a quiz that delighted the audience, with prizes for the top three winners — congratulations to them! This was followed by a networking drink, giving everyone a chance to chat freely in a relaxed atmosphere.
