Hello - In Veeam Backup and Replication 12.2 community edition I am trying to setup an external repository in Azure. When I get to the creation of the proxy appliance in the setup wizard, it checks my quota and the check passes. I then get to the step where I need to name my VM and select a size. When I attempt to select a size, the drop down is blank, meaning no options to select. Has anyone else run into this?

Matt

Hi Matt,

What exactly is your goal? Do you want to store backup data in Azure? In case you do I assume you want to add an Azure Blob storage, correct?

Since v11 (or v10? not 100% sure) as far as I remember you can directly backup to S3 without using an appliance. The appliance is only needed for restores:

Maybe you can share some more details about the target setup that could help to analyse.

Cheers! 😊

I found another article with some prerequisites - did you check this before and can you verify that the requirements are met?

Hey Lukas thanks for that, my primarly goal is to use the cloud as my offsitge backup solution. I wasn’t aware that you don’t need an appliance for S3 so I may just switch over to AWS.

Hey Matt,

I think you don’t need to switch to AWS, you can use Azure Blob, pretty sure also with out an appliance.

Check this out:

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/hyperv/external_azure_blob_add.html?ver=120

S3 is basically the technical protocol, that is used with Azure Blob, AWS S3 and e.g. Wasabi Cloud. This is object storage.

Please keep in mind to consider enabling S3 Object Lock to gain immutability.

Cheers!

Lukas

this issue with the drop down for VM size being blank during the proxy appliance creation in VBR.

The cause typically revolves around a couple of possible factors.

Follow the troubleshooting steps and keep us posted.

Check permissions.
Check region availability.
Check quotas.
Try with different vm size.
