Veeam vCentre Migration Utilities

I thought I’d highlight a new tool that’s been developed by Veeam to help with vCentre migrations. It’s part of a toolset that I hadn’t come across before, so thought it worth sharing.

One of the US VUG’s have also been chatting about it -

I’m hoping Fabian will expand the utility to allow us to reset the Veeam MoRef ID for a server in the current vCentre. This can get changed when doing operations like restores and clones.

A manual workaround has been available for some time, but it would be great to see it as part of the official tool set.

Rob, that's a great tool! Every time our VMware team says they changed something in VMware, I feel frustrated about having to do a full backup.

Thanks for highlighting this! I missed it, but now I know this possibility. 😁

I know exactly what you mean. At a previous role where I was on the corporate It team, local IT managers would change VMware hosts or reinstall vCenter, then come to me complaining that their backups were failing.

At that company, they had strict retention policies requiring backups to be kept for many years, and recreating the backup jobs would break the retention. (This was before Veeam implemented retention application on backups not linked to jobs.)

The migration utility came in clutch to remap the morefs and keep the backup chain intact.

This is definitely a tool that you want to have in your arsenal for backups.  Great writeup. 👍🏼
