Today we will discuss how to restore Microsoft Active Directory (AD) with Veeam VBR. We can restore the AD in Microsoft Active Directory object restore.

In this demo environment, Veeam Backup and Replication Server is integrated with NetApp ONTAP clusters. ONTAP snapshots provide faster data access with almost no impact on the production environment.

First you created a backup of a Microsoft AD virtual machine. Then we will delete the one user or user group in this server.

Now we will restore the user objects for this AD server with VBR. Navigate to Backups > Snapshots, right-click the ad1, select Restore application items > Microsoft Active Directory Restore. Then click Next.

Restore from the latest available backup (ONTAP snapshots) will be selected, and click Next.

Click Next.

Click Browse.

Then Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Active Directory window will now automatically launch with all of the user objects available in the backup listed.

We can click “Compare with Production” and “Show Changed Objects Only” buttons. This is a very useful feature for AD administrators so that they can compare the backup to the actual running Active Directory and show only changes between the two versions.

In this demo, Veeam shows how to restore the user group objects into AD server.
