As a backup admin you need to ensure VMs in a DMZ can utilize application aware processing. You cannot connect directly to the protected VMs. What do you need to be able to protect the VMs?

  1. Connect the backup server to the DMZ
  2. Make sure the VMs have VMware Tools installed and use VIX
  3. Make sure the VMs have VMware Tools installed and use VAIO
  4. Convince the security team to allow you to connect directly to DMZ

I agree with Luiz. Found something here too  https://www.virtualtothecore.com/veeam-backup-and-vix-libraries-howto-backup-networkless-vms-using-vss/

But i would like 4  as well, RPC is much quicker than VIX. As a statefull firewall could allow access from the GIP to the guest VM, i wont see any issues there.

  1. Use VIX

I’m going with B) VIX to the rescue.

  1. No. This would work, but you don’t want to do it for security reasons.
  2. Yes. Using VIX with VMware Tools will allow this to work.
  3. No. VAIO is used for Veeam CDP. Its not going to help with App aware processing.
  4. No. The answer to these questions is never a political battle. Also, see A.

On to answering the Technical Trainer weekly question. As some have noted, a. and d. could be done, but for security reasons, shouldn’t be. And c. is simply incorrect, leaving the only available answer as being b. VMware Tools/VIX

You can review documentation to explain more about lack of connectivity to the protected VMs in the User & Best Practice Guides below:

Great job everyone!
