The VTT question for the week is below. Please remember to hide your comments.

Good luck!

An Oracle database administrator has asked you to be able to use the existing backup scripts to protect the databases. How can you help?

  1. Install Veeam Agents on the Oracle server
  2. Install Veeam Plug-in For Oracle RMAN on the Oracle server
  3. Using the scripts is not supported by Veeam
  4. Deploy a Linux host and run the scripts there

I think that it is “Option A”. I dont remember to see this option in the RMAN Plugin.

“If you use Veeam Backup & Replication or Veeam Agents to create image-level backups of the Oracle server, you can schedule the backup job and run Oracle RMAN backup scripts along with the backup job

Note

If you want to use Oracle RMAN scripts within backup jobs of Veeam Backup & Replication or Veeam Agents, consider the following”

And the answer to the VTT question of the week…

Show content

The whole point of this question is to backup/protect the Oracle DBAs with Veeam when/where possible. But this question wants the Oracle DB to remain mainly “in control” of doing so. That being said… a. is an option since you can run pre/post job and pre/post thaw scripts with the Agent, but there are limitations for this (i.e. Agent Server mode, for one). As such this isn’t the correct answer; b. is the correct answer as this is exactly what the plugin is meant for → allow Oracle DBAs to control backups via RMAN scripts; c. this is simply an inaccurate statement based on what the Oracle RMAN Plugin is used for; and d. is incorrect because though you could do this, again this isn’t a viable method to perform Oracle DB backups; and, assuming they are retained locally to the server, are they really backups? (no )
