Due to 4th of July national holiday here in the U.S. on Thurs, I will be sharing the 2 weekly VMCE practice questions on Mon & Wed. The VTT question, normally on Wed, will be tomorrow.

So let’s get to this week’s 1st question…

One of your Backup Jobs, using the Forever Forward Backup Method, has its Retention Policy configured for 14 Days. The Job is scheduled to run every 12 hours. During a recent application upgrade, you needed to perform 2 ad-hoc Backups of the same Job. On Day 14, how many total Restore Points of the Job will be on the Repository?

  1. 14
  2. 2
  3. 28
  4. 30

2 restore point per day, 14 days = 28 restore point + 2 ad hoc restore point = 30 restore points.

It’s FRIDAY!...so that means practice question answer day. Let’s get to it. See below…

So, the questions this week are (on purpose) thinking questions. Expect more to come in the coming weeks. The answer to this question is d. 30 days . Why?

You have a job that runs each day, but RPO is every 12hrs, so that means twice/day. Retention is 14 days so 14 x 2 = 28. But wait..there’s more! 😁 You have 2 ad-hoc Fulls you needed to run due to maintenance. Running ad-hoc Restore Points, beit increments (i.e. a Quick Backup) or Active Fulls doesn’t remove any other Restore Points in the VM’s chain. As such, you have this: 28 + 2 = 30. See below if you need more help:
https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/retention_policy.html?ver=120

Hope you got it right!
