Hey there everyone. A little later than normal getting the 2nd of the week VMCE practice question out, but here it is. Apologies for that. Remember to please hide your comments...and of course good luck!

Guest Interaction Proxies (GIP) are Veeam Components which sit between the Veeam Server and a processed VM to interact with the processed VM. First, what function does the GIP perform? Second, why would the GIP need to perform this service?

  1. Installs a Veeam non-persistent runtime agent; for backing up Transaction Logs
  2. Installs the Veeam Backup Agent on the processed VM; so the VM can be backed up properly
  3. Installs the Veeam proprietary CBT driver; to perform incremental backups
  4. Transfers source data from the processed VM to the Repository; increases Backup Job performance

How interesting the 2nd question for the week ‘piggy-backs’ right off the VTT for this week as well. No, it wasn’t planned đŸ˜Š So let’s see how we get the answer to the above question

Show content

Though Veeam can use Agents to backup VMs, this isn’t the recommended method (unless there are application/security restrictions forcing you to do so); and Veeam doesn’t have a general “backup agent” per se. They have various Agents for particular OSes. So this option isn’t correct. For option c. yes...CBT is used to create incremental backups, but GIP isn’t used to deploy Veeam’s proprietary CBT driver (Veeam does have this but isn’t referenced too much in the Guides; I know it’s used in Hyper-V, not sure in can be used in vSphere). Thus, c. isn’t correct. D. is just blatantly incorrect → the Veeam Proxy does this work, not the GIP. Because of all this, the only remaining option is a. Installs a Veeam non-persistent runtime agent; for backing up Transaction Logs. For further reading/info, see the below URL:
