You will need to take the course through Veeam in order to take the exam.  Tsunati who works with Veeam offers online training self-paced if you prefer that for 30 days.  Install Veeam and use it that is the best way - hands on.

Hi Chris, I’ve just found the following. Does this mean I can just buy the exam voucher without the need to pay Veeam for the learning material 2k seems very expensive.

No.  If you are taking the exam for the first time you need to take training.

Not sure your knowledge level, but aside from what Chris shared about testing Veeam by installing and going through all the processes, you can at least start by taking some free courses by Veeam at their Veeam University site:

They’re really good brief FREE courses which cover a host of items about Veeam, from components, to backups, to replications, to Cloud solutions, to VeeamONE (monitoring solution), etc. I’d really start there.

You can then search for some training companies from Veeam’s Cert site:

After, you should then look at downloading a trial of Veeam and play with it, going through the sections of the User Guide as you go:

That’ll give you a good foundation to begin with. And don’t forget to look at the VMCE Exam Blueprint to see what Veeam is wanting you to know about for the exam:
