Onboarding for Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 - Step 2.2 Deployment options

You can choose the deployment that best fits your business needs and change it when needed with ease. Your Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 deployment can come:

The prerequisites and how these components work for each environment are very similar. IT organizations have the flexibility to choose from different designs based on their current requirements.

  • On-premises deployments

For customers seeking local control over their Microsoft 365 data, on-premises deployment provides robust backup for Exchange, SharePoint, OneDrive for Business, and Teams. On-Premises deployment supported advanced local storage options, including repositories with immutability to protect against ransomware. Enhanced multi-factor authentication (MFA) ensures secure access to data, with the flexibility to scale from simple setups to complex infrastructures while managing both online and on-premises components seamlessly.

In this video, you will be guided through the Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 download and installation process. You will also learn how to create your first backup job, and how to configure the self-service restore portal.

  • Azure and AWS deployments

In the case of Microsoft Azure, there is a certified and pre-installed application available in the Azure Marketplace. Azure Marketplace requires the customer to enter the details of the Microsoft 365 tenants. Likewise, in the case of Amazon AWS, the application is certified and available from the AWS Marketplace. It comes preinstalled into an AWS EC2 instance and it is a matter of choosing the instance type based upon requirements.

In Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 v8, deployments via Azure and AWS offer even greater flexibility with pre-installed applications from the respective marketplaces. Azure and AWS both support additional storage options like Azure Blob Storage and Amazon S3 with immutability features to enhance data protection. These deployments can scale easily and offer advanced security features, including multi-factor authentication (MFA) and data encryption for both backup and recovery processes.

  • Service providers deployments

Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 is still widely used by service providers offering Backup as a Service (BaaS) for Microsoft 365 data. The solution’s infrastructure remains flexible, allowing users to have exclusive access to single tenants or enabling a ‘shared mode’ where multiple tenants across different organizations are able to be backed up while maintaining complete data separation and multi-tenancy. With the latest version, service providers also benefit from enhanced scalability and more comprehensive security features, including data immutability and support for multiple repositories.

  • Other public cloud providers

Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 allows the deployment on other preferred cloud providers. In fact, Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 can virtually run from any cloud. If the minimum requirements for the deployment are satisfied, any public cloud provider is a suitable candidate. This still provides the option to store the data into a separate location when desired.
