Recovering Data - Instant Recovery

Understanding Instant Recovery

Instant Recovery is an invaluable feature that enables organizations to swiftly restore their virtual machines (VMs) from a backup, allowing operations to resume with minimal interruption. Imagine being able to get your applications and data back online almost immediately, bypassing the lengthy process of a full restore. With Instant Recovery, VMs can run directly from the backup storage, ensuring that your team can continue their work without a hitch. Once the VM is up and running, it can smoothly transition back to primary storage, making the entire process efficient and seamless. This flexibility not only reduces downtime but also enhances your overall data protection strategy, giving you peace of mind in the face of unexpected challenges.

How Instant Recovery Works

Instant Recovery is all about getting your virtual machines (VMs) back online quickly when something goes wrong. When a VM crashes or becomes unreachable, this feature lets you start it right from the backup data stored in your backup repository. Instead of waiting for a lengthy restore process, you can have your VM up and running in just minutes, which means way less downtime for you and your team. Once the VM is back in action, it can handle its usual workloads while the system takes care of transferring the backup back to primary storage in the background.

Migration with Instant Recovery

The instant recovery migration process is designed to ensure a smooth transition when you've got your virtual machine (VM) running from backup but need to move it back to your primary storage. Once the VM is up and operational, you can't just leave it running from the backup storage.

The migration process kicks in to shift the VM back to its original spot on the primary storage without any downtime. While your team continues to access the VM as usual, the system is working behind the scenes to copy all the necessary data back over to the primary storage. Once everything is safely in place, the VM can be switched over to run directly from the primary storage again. This method ensures that your operations remain seamless, and you get the best of both worlds—quick recovery and a return to a fully optimized setup.
