Configuring Veeam - SNMP Settings

Specifying SNMP Settings

SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) settings in Veeam Backup and Replication enable Veeam to integrate with network management systems and tools. SNMP is a protocol used for network management and monitoring. It allows administrators to receive notifications and gather information about the health and status of devices and applications within their network infrastructure.

In the context of Veeam Backup and Replication, SNMP settings allow you to:

Receive Alerts and Notifications

By configuring SNMP settings, you can set up Veeam to send SNMP traps or notifications to your network management system whenever specific events or conditions occur. These events could include successful or failed backup jobs, low storage space, or any other critical situation related to your backup and recovery infrastructure.

Centralized Monitoring

SNMP integration provides a centralized way to monitor your Veeam environment alongside other networked devices and services. This can help administrators quickly identify issues, assess their impact, and respond promptly to ensure data protection and system availability.

Proactive Issue Resolution

SNMP notifications allow for proactive issue resolution. When Veeam detects a problem, it can send an SNMP trap to your monitoring system, triggering automated responses or alerting administrators, which can help minimize downtime and data loss.

Resource Management

SNMP settings can also help in managing resources more effectively. For example, you can set up SNMP-based alerts to notify you when backup jobs consume excessive bandwidth or storage resources run low.

Veeam Backup & Replication allows you to receive SNMP traps containing job results from the backup server, enabling seamless integration with various monitoring systems like CA Unicenter, BMC Patrol, IBM Tivoli, or HPE OpenView. You can configure up to five destinations to receive these SNMP traps, enhancing your backup infrastructure's monitoring and management capabilities.

To receive SNMP traps, you must perform the following tasks:

  1. Configure Global SNMP Settings - enable SNMP trap delivery to up to five external monitoring systems, providing job result notifications and seamless integration with third-party monitoring solutions.
  2. Configure SNMP Service Properties - customize the SNMP trap community name, port number, and trap handling behavior for seamless integration with your existing monitoring systems.

  3. Configure SNMP Settings for Jobs - enable specific SNMP traps for job events, allowing seamless integration with third-party monitoring systems for enhanced visibility and proactive alerting during data protection tasks.
