For any Service Providers, you likely should have received an email already regarding the RTM build of v13.0.1 being released for Day 0 Readiness of GA (in a few weeks). It looks like an email was also just sent out regarding the RTM release to regular ProPartners for download and familiarization before the new version is generally available. That said, I wanted to highlight just a couple of items about this release.
This is considered a breaking release. If your Veeam Cloud Connect tenants upgrade their Veeam backup software to the latest releases before you upgrade your own Veeam Cloud Connect environment to V13, tenants will be unable to access their cloud repositories and hosts.
We recommend that you upgrade your Veeam Cloud Connect environment now now or advise your tenants to wait to upgrade their Veeam backup software.
Tenant notification of upgrade status
In the event you do not upgrade your Veeam Cloud Connect environment before your tenant does, the following message will appear within their UI both prior to and after their upgrade:
“Your service provider uses an outdated Veeam Cloud Connect platform version that is not compatible with your product version.”
This is typical of major version upgrades. If you do not upgrade to v13 in your VCC environment before your customers do, they will be greeted with warnings and should they continue to upgrade, access to your VCC resources will be broken. As such, you’ll need to either upgrade or make sure to inform your customers not to upgrade yet and then again once you have completed your upgrades and it’s now safe for them to upgrade as well.
Service Provider notification of upgrade status
In the event you upgrade your Veeam Cloud Connect environment and tenants are running unsupported versions, the following message will appear and indicate which tenants need to be reviewed.
“Please postpone the upgrade and contact your Cloud Connect tenants to assess their readiness status. Some tenants are currently using outdated products versions that are not compatible with the current update. If you proceed with the upgrade, the jobs for the following tenants will fail:”
Backwards compatibility
Veeam Cloud Connect v13 is backwards compatible with the following earlier versions of Veeam backup software:
- Veeam Backup & Replication 12.3.2.3617 (and later 12.3.2 builds)
- Veeam Agent for Windows 6.3.2 and later
- Veeam Agent for Linux 6.3.2 and later
- Veeam Agent for Mac 2.3.1 and later
Please note that tenants running Veeam Software Appliance 13.0.0.4967 are not supported. Please ask tenants to upgrade their Veeam Software Appliance (to V13.0.1) deployments before adding them to VCC 13.0.1.
Note the backward compatibility of VCC with previous versions of Veeam. Also note that the VSA must be upgraded to v13.0.1 before they can connect to a v13 VCC. I believe that the SPC must be upgraded to v9 as well.
Also, for those who have upgraded their Service Provider Consoles to v9, it appears that v9.1 will be released tomorrow (11/6) though previous communication noted today (11/5) as the expected release date.
Partners are encouraged to use the RTM build to familiarize themselves with the new release. We hope you become early adopters and start using this build for educational purposes to train your staff. The RTM build is fully supported by Veeam customer support, so feel free to contact us in case of any issues.
NOTE: Usage of the RTM build in customer environments is prohibited until V13 is GA, which is expected in a few weeks.
Don't be installing the RTM into customer production environments. That’s what GA is for. RTM is for educational purposes, testing, and Day 0 readiness.
If you haven’t received details on how to obtain the RTM build, contact your ProPartner account manager and they should be able to get you that information. Happy testing and upgrading all!
