VeeamON 2024 - Use Code "COMMUNITY10" for 10% Off!
Interesting topic. We are facing this issue as well at one of our clients. I would like to have good arguments to make some changes in the backup configurations. The question is not IF we need a backup but how to do it as efficient as possible. keep in mind that the backup is worthless if we can not restore. 😉Configuration atm is as follows:4 default vm backups based on vmware tags and with storage integration. Backup jobs are running every evening between 10 PM and 4 AM.For some reason one backup job fails around 12 Am and I think that at that particular moment vcenter vm is creating a snapshot and the rest of the vm’s are failing within this job. Because of this reason we would like to create a new job with vcenter VM only.is this the way to go or would wou guys suggest to do it differently?
@Chris.Childerhose Thanks for the reply. Yes I have searched in R&D forums but didn’t find any topic with an answer to my question. We are also cloning the built-in reports and changing them. I just want 1 report that contains all the built-in reports in a chosen order.
It’s amazing to see that community members are sharing such valuable and useful content. This will be my second favorite show to watch at the end of the week 😇
@JMeixner It is Formula 1 weekend. So that would be my number 1 favorite show for this week
@Rick Vanover I thought it would be interesting, that is why I started the topic 😎My favorite report needs to have following things included:Latest alarms: Immutibility on/off status, disabled jobs….etc. etc. (whatever is important we will setup by the VeeamOne client add is to the filters) Latest job status Unavailable repo’s, proxy’s… Change tracking Restore activitiesIf we can combine all these reports into one, so that it looks great, that would be amazing. but it just doesn’t I am afraid.
@kirststoner12 Thank you so much for taking some time to answer to my question.Well if we can do a feature request, it would be much apreciated. Not only by me.
@Link State Thank you for your graphical explenation 😃Can you explain to me why you are backing up also by Veeam backup job? As it should be depricated if I am right.
We also do it like @Link State. The image backup is faster to restore then the VCSA integrated backup. The later one is just the fallback if the image restore fails. And normally vCenter is backed up together with other VMs, so no seperate job. What errors to you see at the 12AM job? This makes it very clear. Better be safe then sorry. Thanks for that @regnor This is one of the errors:3/2/2023 11:29:49 PM :: Processing [privatemachinename] Error: Failed to prepare VM for processing: Socket has been forcibly closed. Failed to recover connection.

Failed to recover connection. try queuing the vcsa as the last job, like this example or try upgrade vmware tools & migrate Vm su another datastore. @regnor agree 😉 fast & furious restore :P I rescheduled the vcsa job and let’s see what will be the result. Thanks for the help everyone.
@ralphrenierkensLooking forward to your results. The error could have many causes, so maybe vCenter itself isn't the problem. Putting vcsa in a different job and schedule after the latest job run did do the trick. There are still some machines that have some issues but it has a different reason that we know about. So for now, you guys helped me a lot and I got much wiser 😀.Have a great weekend you all!
Thanks for sharing this one @regnor.
