Veeam is excited to introduce Veeam Kasten v8.0--a powerful leap forward in modern data protection.
This latest release is purpose-built for the enterprise, delivering enhanced support for modern virtualization, robust security, effortless scalability, and unparalleled freedom of choice.
With Kasten v8.0, operations and application teams gain the advanced tools they need to ensure data resilience across both traditional virtual machines (VMs) and modern cloud-native environments. This provides seamless, consistent management with the performance and stability enterprises demand.
Key Features include:
- Support for File Level Recovery (FLR) for KubeVirt VMs allowing for granular restores
- New VM Dashboard that provides visibility into Kube-Virt based workloads and dependent resources across the cluster
- New Restore Point Dashboard to simplify management of restore points and recoveries
- Redesigned Policies Dashboard to improve management with expanded search, filtering and added detailed views
- Self Service Cluster Migrations allowing non-admin users to perform data migrations, imports and restores
- Reduced privileges for Veeam Kasten Services helping minimize attack surface and enhance compliance by adopting a least-privilege approach
- ISO 27001 Certification elevating customers’ security profiles
- Encryption Key Rotation providing simplified key management while enhancing encryption standards
- Multi-Architecture support for clusters using 64-bit ARM or POWER CPU architectures in addition to existing x86_64 CPU support
Key considerations include:
- Kasten now uses deployment specific service accounts instead of the
k10-k10
service account for a default helm install. Kasten continues to support using a customer provided service account name via the helm valueserviceAccount.name
. - Following upgrade to 8.0.0, any Veeam Kasten installations that do not explicitly set
kastenDisasterRecovery.quickMode.enabled=false
and have Veeam Kasten Disaster Recovery (KDR) enabled will now default to Quick DR with local catalog snapshot. - Upgrading to this version changes the manner in which passkeys are handled. Performing a KDR backup is recommended prior to upgrading
This release adds more flexibility with support for multi-CPU architectures, the ability to export to Veeam Vault and expanded support for NetApp Trident storage provisioner with backup capabilities for ONTAP NAS “Economy” volumes. With all these features users can embrace increased security, enhanced visibility and improved disaster recovery allowing them to stay resilient within their modern cloud-native deployments.
