We are excited to announce early availability for the Veeam Backup & Replication Veeam Software Appliance! The appliance is delivered through a bootable ISO or virtual appliance and runs on a hardened, Veeam managed Linux OS. This solution is hardware agnostic, allowing you to deploy on the infrastructure of your choice: physical, virtual or cloud.

It’s important to note that this early release is intended for net new deployments, with upgrade and migration options coming in a future release.

Key features include:

  • Based on hardened, Veeam-managed Linux-based “Just Enough OS” (JeOS)
  • Delivery as a bootable ISO and OVA for maximum deployment flexibility
  • Built-in immutability, Zero Trust access controls and automated patching
  • Modern web UI with SAML Single Sign-On (SSO) for backup console access
  • Mandated MFA for all sensitive operations
  • Base OS pre-configured to DISA STIG guidelines
  • Automatic Security patches and hardening updates
  • Backup Infrastructure Lockdown mode to prevent unauthorized additions of backup infrastructure components
  • Designated Security Officer role to approve host operations and configuration changes
  • True Zero trust operations with no base OS privileges available to backup server administrators or any other roles
  • Immutability option for backups stored in its built-in repository

With its built-in immutability, Zero Trust access controls and automated patching, the Veeam Software Appliance delivers a secure, flexible, and modernized backup experience tailored for today’s diverse infrastructure needs. Although JeOS is built on Linux, no prior Linux expertise is required. We've streamlined all essential OS management tasks through a simple text-based user interface (TUI) and a modern web-based console. Whether you're deploying on physical hardware, virtual environments, or in the cloud, this hardened Linux-based solution offers built-in security, simplified management, and true Zero Trust operations from day one.

So far loving this appliance.  Got things going and going through my configs but having issues adding older VHRs from the previous ISO.  I have posted in the forums about that.

But so far this system is very cool and more responsive than v12 especially the thick client on Windows.  😂

Veeam as usual has surpassed itself, we can’t wait to put it in full production, the only thing we are waiting for is not having to use the windows client at all which for the moment is not possible (Proxmox and Configuration Backup settings). I am sur Veeam will add more things to the web console soon. Is there a roadmap of any kind on adding features yet ?
