Good morning everyone, I sweated on Friday in an attempt to install a mini Kubernetes environment on linux machines to have a mini lab where I could see K10 in action.

I tried both Canonical's Microk8S: https://microk8s.io/

and Minikube: https://minikube.sigs.k8s.io/docs/start/

and failed miserably with both. Both with the guides on the sites themselves and by searching for others on the net. All of them always seem to be missing something and in the end nothing starts.

Has anyone done such an installation and--does anyone know a how to 4 dummies? 😊
Thanks!

P.S.: I will soon try also this post from Geoff:

HI Atinivelli,

Also take a look at Rancher Desktop. It runs k3s under the hood and is up and running without much effort. The issue comes if you want to use Kasten and then you really need storage on a csi driver.

Minikube has and addon and Microk8s can leverage openebs which do snapshots but you have to do a bit more.

Tell us how you got on and if you get stuck be sure to aks here. Believe me I went through tons of “stuck moments” myself and it was only help from the communities out there that go me through

cheers

Also you can leverage Kasten here as well you just need to manually add the csi local host driver and external snapshotter. I think I posted about it here but I can post fresh instructions if need be as well.

Was just about to suggest looking at blogs by Geoff as I have followed them and got things running just no time to test.  😋

Also if you find anything that does not work this also could mean that something has changed so please point that out to me if you find that. Kubernetes is evolving quickly and there are changes that take place i.e. thing deprecated etc.

thanks a lot @Geoff Burke , I will try RancherDesktop too.
In the while I installed Minikube on my Win11 pc, this is the way I was able to do it
