Question

Exclude oracle instance on Windows server from backup

Hi,

Running several oracle instances on a windows server.

How to exclude an instance(s) from veaam (application aware) backup ?

In the log it says : “Oracle sid collection is created via Oracle sid investigation strategy for Windows”

What is that “strategy” ?

The following KB explains how to disable Oracle processing without completely turning off Application Aware processing - KB4350: How to Disable Oracle Processing Without Disabling Application-Aware Processing (veeam.com)

Hi Chris,

Thanks for quick response but for what i read that disables all databases on windows server.

I have multiple databases on server, like “instance A”, “instance B”, and “instance C”

I want veeam to backup databases A and C and exclude database B

Ok.  Sorry there is not much else I can add to this as I don’t use Oracle at all.  Maybe try searching the forums - https://forums.veeam.com

Worse case create a Support ticket to see if they can help with the exclusions.  It is entirely possible that you cannot exclude instances and would need to move it to another server to exclude it.

Hi, i already created a support ticket but i / we have no official license (our hosting provider uses veeam).

On linux it’s possible / quite simple : just edit the /etc/oratab

On windows i found no workaround yet
