I am working on a deployment of Veeam 12.3 on Windows Server 2025 as I see there is now official support.  I am planning to use PostgreSQL, and I was wondering which version to choose.  The 12.3 ISO comes with v15.10-1.  Is that Veeam’s recommendation for Server 2025?

The latest version of PostgreSQL is 17.2.  Try as I might, I can’t find any statements regarding PostgreSQL’s support for Windows Server 2025, but if Veeam support is willing to stand behind it, that’s good enough for me.

Also, am I correct to assume the only way to run the DB on its own drive (D:) is a manual install of PostgreSQL before the Veeam install?

I would stick with the version on the ISO as that is the supported version based on the requirements page - https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/em/system_requirements.html?ver=120

Yes you would need to use the install for putting it on D drive.

PSQL version support is noted under ‘Backup Server’ in the User Guide:

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/system_requirements.html?ver=120#backup-server

Veeam supports 14.x and 15.x. And, you can do a local or remote (manual) install of PSQL for VBR install, as also noted in the link above.

Thanks.  EDB only lists Windows 2016, 2019 as supported OSes for v15 .  So, I’m just double checking before I move forward.

Here’s the page I’m referencing: PostgreSQL: Windows installers

Platform support section.

Ah, ok. Well, I am running the pre-packaged PSQL which installs with Veeam on Win 2022 and have no issues. Win 2025 I can’t comment on. Personally, that OS is too new for me to do anything other than just look at...but that’s just me. For definitive supportability outside of what Veeam documentation says, you can either contact Support directly (we aren’t support here), or ask Veeam PMs on the Forums

I wouldn’t want to tell you anything unofficial from Veeam’s standpoint.

Best.

The built-in Postgres installer will work on 2025 windows.  No issues as I have it running in my lab.

Thanks for that link. I hadn’t realized there were two forums. I’ve posted my question there as well.

Here’s the link for anyone that might find this post:  Windows Server 2025 PostgreSQL support - R&D Forums

I’ll continue there.

Hi @jpollock,

… just to add to what everyone has said.

Note: You might deploy a different version and it might work but will not be supported just like I did here at some point just for testing: https://community.veeam.com/vug-south-africa-91/steps-to-install-postgresql-on-windows-server-as-veeam-database-6363

Therefore, I will advise you to stick with the supported version as discussed here: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/system_requirements.html
