Hello Veeam Community!

I’m thrilled to write my first post here and what better topic than the big news that just dropped? For those who haven’t heard yet, Veeam have officially acquired Object First! 🎉

As someone who’s been working with Object First’s immutable storage solution a few month at G0T0, I can confidently say: this is a game-changer for data protection, and here’s why.

🔍 Why This Acquisition Matters

Object First isn’t just another backup appliance—it’s purpose-built for immutability, designed to eliminate ransomware risks and simplify compliance.

At G0T0, we’ve been deploying them for our clients, and the results speak for themselves:

✅ True Immutability Out of the Box

No misconfigurations (the #1 cause of failed restores).

Hardware-enforced immutability (not just software-based).

✅ Blazing-Fast Deployment

Pre-optimized for Veeam, so setup takes minutes.

✅ Cost-Effective & Predictable

No hidden licensing fees or undesirable maintenance surprises.

🚀 What This Means for the Veeam Ecosystem

Now that Veeam own Object First, expect:

🔹 Deeper integration with Veeam Data Platform.

🔹 Unified support (no more juggling multiple vendors).

🔹 Faster innovation.

Bottom line: If you’ve been waiting for a simple, secure, and cost-effective way to achieve immutable backups, this is it—and we’ve already proven it works.

💬 Your Turn: What’s Your Immutability Strategy?

I’d love to hear from the community:

Are you already using Object First or another immutable solution?

Planning to migrate soon? What’s holding you back?

Drop a comment below, I’m happy to share our experiences, lessons learned, or even help with troubleshooting!

Hi @morgan.munck -

Well done on your 1st post! 😊

I do use immutability myself, but I manually configure it on iSCSI-connected storage to a couple Ubuntu physical boxes from Nimble. As a SMB, works pretty good for me for now.

Best.

hi @morgan.munck welcome in this crazy community 🤣

With my company we have deployed some appliance for our clients.

After this acquisition I’ll expect the future Veeam Edge Appliance (presented at the Veeam100 Summit in Prague) will be based on Object First.

Our strategy? If it’s possible we start immutability from first tier, perhaps based on VHR as performance tier and Object First as capacity tier.

My 2cents

Really like this topic @morgan.munck

I have one OOTBI appliance that I test with in one of our DCs and also have the 3-node VSA in my HomeLab.  We tend to use Object Storage with Immutability (Pure Flashblade) here where I work but have a lot of block storage still.  We are in the process of converting but Immutability is the way to go moving forward I think.

I was excited to move ahead to Object First next year, and found out the cost went from 28K to 42K? This moves it out of our cost range. Are there any other vendors with Immutable Storage we can look at instead?

Hello @jbailey2222 , unfortunately, due to the shortage of certain metals, most storage manufacturers have significantly raised their prices. Another vendor that offers immutability, and one we often recommend to clients, is Dell Data Domain, but its implementation and administration are less intuitive than Object First.

@jbailey2222 There is Exagrid, but the price should be pretty similar...

Hello everyone!!

Currently, when a client evaluates Object First against competitors, there are technically no remaining reasons not to choose this repository over traditional or insecure alternatives.

Given the global hardware situation, price adjustments are understandable. The goal is to extend the frequency of these increases far beyond what other storage vendors do, providing enough margin and predictability to finalize project scope.

Tell that to our budget lol. A 150% increase is a lot to justify.

I’m curious, which specific model saw such a significant price increase?

I found a notice regarding this:
Price increases for certain Object First models

Supply chain constraints and rising costs continue to challenge the entire industry. More recently, these pressures have affected the components used in our 18 TB, 36 TB, and 72 TB models.

To ensure supply continuity, a price increase of up to 10% will apply to these models starting July 1st.

We have sufficient inventory across our entire product line to meet customer needs, and our prices remain competitive.

Objectfirst propose also a consumption-based model offers predictable monthly billing based on usage. This allows customers to lock in their rates while benefiting from the fully immutable Veeam backup storage needed to recover effectively from a cyberattack.

😮 wow that is some increase.  Geez

Gustavo Dutschmann

Everyone is already aware of the situation regarding component shortages and price increases.

Quotes were changing weekly—and continue to do so. Object First, however, has managed this by making higher price adjustments that have remained stable over time.
As @Stabz rightly points out, on July 1st, they only implemented a 10% increase on the 18, 36, and 72TB appliances. Meanwhile, all other appliances have maintained their pricing since May 11th, allowing clients and partners to bring their projects to fruition.

It is completely understandable, as @jbailey2222  mentions, how difficult it is to justify price increases. However, we can work together to consistently find the best option, especially now that Object First is part of the Veeam portfolio.

This seems more than a 10% increase. They can charge whatever they want. It will just keep those of us on a budget from using their product. I know that currently, prices are high regardless of the manufacturer. If the price had been $30,800 (10% bump), I might have been able to get it approved. I want to use the built-in features they have. I will have to settle for a cheaper device with a few or none of those features. In the end, I have to be able to back up a copy to a storage appliance. Whatever it is.

Unfortunately, the increase isn't driven by desire, but rather by the need to maintain the core of what's being delivered.
I understand your need; it would be wise to at least consider having a hardened repository to ensure the protection of your data.

@jbailey2222 You should ask for a quote on other appliances (24TB or 36TB) the prices might be more attractive when looking at the price-per-TB ratio.

Yeah, I am checking with all the players to get a reasonable price.

@jbailey2222 Objectfirst also offers a 20 TB NAS model, but I don't know the price difference between the rack-mountable models and the NAS models with the same storage capacity.

Mini OOTBI:
8TB, 16TB and 24TB

The model could also be verified based on consumption.
