vSphere VM migration via Veeam VM migrator Utility

Hello everyone,

I am new to this community and have already tried my luck in a closed thread about the Veeam VM Migrator Utility.
However, I currently have a question about this utility.

Are there any experience reports on migrating individual vSphere VMs using the Migrator Utility?
Is individual migration with this tool even intended?

Thank you in advance for your feedback!

Yes you can use it for individual VMs but I have not used this utility for while and thought they were deprecating it.  Anyway there is more details here - https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/vm_migrator_utility.html?ver=120

I don't know about the VM Migrator, but I used several times the Quick Migration to move VMs between standalone hosts on ESXi: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/quick_migration.html?ver=120

From my experience, yes you can use the utility for individual VMs. The VBRViMigrationSpecificationFile should only generate with vms that exist in both source and target VMs, but you should also be able to manually edit that file to exclude VMs that you don’t want migrated.

Keep in mind that the VM migration Utility doesn’t actually move the VM, it just updates the Veeam database so that the VM in the new vCenter uses the existing backup chain for that VM.

Jobs would also have to be updated to point to the newly migrated VM.
