Hi guys, I have a query.

I am planning to upgrade from v9.5 to v11, the current license which I am using in v9.5, can i use the same in v11. And please don't reply with a link which leads to upgrade to v11 which I have already read and I have a confusion which is why I am asking.

If you have an active maintenance contract, you can update.

The new license will be automatically downloaded from the license server. If not, you need to download it yourself from the license portal.

That would be all in the upgrade guide you mentioned :)

The Veeam Backup & Replication 11 or 11a setup wizard will offer to download your version 11 or 11a license automatically. This requires uploading your currently installed license to Veeam servers. If your backup server has no Internet connection, or if you prefer not to have your license uploaded, or in case of license upgrade issues – download your license from the Customer Portal manually. Note that you must have an active maintenance agreement at the time when you access the portal.

Typically when you upgrade the license gets updated but in this case being two versions behind you might be required to download a v11 one.  Not positive but only way to know is run the update but if a VM snapshot it first for rollback if needed.

I am using a subscription license enterprise edition, is this enough?

This is a good way to end the year. Updating to v11..

Yes, an active subscription license can always be updated.

So I don't have to buy a new license again for upgrade? I can use the same subscription license which I used in v9.5?

Are you talking about the old instance licensing?

They will be converted to VUL. From the V10 release Notes:

https://www.veeam.com/veeam_backup_10_0_whats_new_wn.pdf

“Veeam Instance License (VIL) conversion: Existing VIL will be converted to VUL, at no charge, for the remainder of the contract. The conversion is done at 1:1 ratio regardless of VIL edition, to ensure that each customer can continue protecting the same number of workloads.“

You should have a look at your customer license portal. The new VUL should already be available for you to download.

I think this is the best approach.

Login into your Veeam account and check in the license section if there is a license for v11 available for download.

If you have an active maintenance contract there should be one available. In this case you can upgrade without buying a new license. If not then you have to buy a new one.

In this case @Mildur is it better to mid-upgrade to v10 before go with v11?

@marcofabbri

The supported upgrade paths are documented here:

https://www.veeam.com/kb2053

If @Anandu is on version 9.5.4.2866, he can directly upgrade to V11a. Older Versions of 9.5 first must be upgraded to 9.5.4.2866 and then can be upgraded to V11a.
