Question

Veeam Rocky Linux 9.5 Hardened Repository Installation - Testing Veeam Data Mover service connection Error:

Hi,

I am setting up a Linux Hardened Repository for our backups and have followed @HannesK ‘s very good instructional videos found here: https://www.veeam.com/blog/rocky-linux-veeam.html

I got everything done on the setup of the Rocky Linux machine, however I cannot get it added into Veeam Backup an Replication Console.  It gets stuck on this part

It is exactly the same error as this forum post however, I am not being successful

What I have tried so far:

I have disabled the firewall on the Rocky Linux machine:  Same error

I have added the user to the Wheel Group to give it Sudo permissions: Same error

I have as suggested in that link chose the less secure linux and not one-time password option… which then gives me the error same as this. https://forums.veeam.com/veeam-backup-replication-f2/problem-setting-up-linux-repository-t75144.html

The setup is Veeam Version 11 latest build P20240304

Rocky Linux 9.5

I would appreciate any help that anyone can give me to try.

Hey, for a good Guide you can follow the steps here on the blog from @PeteSteven

But also the blog from Hannes should work ;)

Regarding your Veeam Version - you have to upgrade! Not especially because of this error, but please go to latest 12.3 Version (with additional step over 12.0) and try again. There are a lot of improvements in 12.x and also a lot of security fixes.

As far as I remember, Rocky Linux 9.4 is not officially supported with Veeam 11a either.

However, is the SSH service currently running?

You might also consider checking the possibility of upgrading Veeam to a version that officially supports Rocky Linux.

I agree with Matheus and suggest updating to Veeam v12 before further troubleshooting. This will also be required before you can open a support ticket since v11 is out of support.

agree with all steps above, but also think about using the Veeam Hardened Repository ISO (instead the manual way with Rocky) - this would make it a lot easier, compared to manual deploying a Rocky, Hardening with DISA/STIGs, etc…

This would be my suggestion along with everyone else that said to upgrade to the latest 12.3 release.
