Hi,
I created a full system backup with veeam agent for windows on a dell laptop with Win 11 installed. I boot from Veeam recovery media to a new laptop, select the backup from external usb drive, select bare metal recovery and whatever i do (Entire, volume, manual) i receive the same error message: Restore failed: The stub received bad data

Unfortunately due to not being more detailed with the error the best route would be to contact support for further assistance with this one.

@jkalos - can you provide more details on your setup? What system are you backing up? What system did you create your restore media from? How often do you run a backup? Where do your backups reside (what Repo)? Do or have your backups failed?

Thanks.

A quick search for your error didn’t really turn up much.

You can look in the logs at: C:\ProgramData\Veeam\Endpoint to see if they show anything more definitive; or, open a Support case. (yes, even for Free edition if you’re using it)

I did use the veeam agent for windows (current version) to backup a Win 11 Pro 25H2 to an external USB hard drive.
Both source and destination machines are Dell Vostro 3525 laptops.
The recovery media created by veeam was transferred to an external usb stick in many ways (linux dd, ventoy, rufus, balena etcher).
Now i am curious about how this more detailed information is going to help troubleshoot further :).

I did open a case, but i was hoping for a way to solve this faster. Restoring a system usually means a disaster recovery.

There have been posts from others on VAW that creating media using Windows 11 25H2 is not working correctly. They had to create it on a 24H2 system to succesfully perform a restore. If you’re able to, that’s what I’d attempt while you await Support.

There is nothing to backup,
The only things i got in my hands are a bare metal laptop and a useless backup to restore from.

As I shared in my previous post, you can either try and create recovery media on Win11 24h2 and attempt the restore, or contact Veeam Support.

Just adding here, the support i receive from Veeam support.
Creating recovery media from older windows versions like 23H2 doesn't make any difference.

Which release of the Veeam Agent did you install in detail? I know you’ve written current version, but I just want to be on the safe side.
