hello, using standalone agent, latest version of 13.0.1220, windows 11 25H2.

my backup job as 11 backups, but when i tried to do a restore, only the latest two backups are listed.
also, the .vbm file lists those two latest backups.

this can be seen three ways as shown in the images below

so, i wanted to know how to re-create the .vbm from a set of .vik|.vbk files ?
i know that VBAR has an import feature but that is not an option for me.

i found these scripts from 2017 that are said not to work anymore
https://forums.veeam.com/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=20568&start=0

any suggestions? thanks, david

Unsure there is a way other than going through support.  It is like the retention rolled up to the latest VBK and VIB file only.  So the VBM does not see the previous chain.  Support is the route to go here as I don't know of a manual way myself.

Hi David -

I didn’t even know there was a scripting way to recreate a .vbm. The only way I knew about was running an Active Full again, and then whatever Veeam Support has to do so. Unless someone else is aware of a way...I’m with Chris here & suggest Support if you’re able to. Keep us posted.

Best.

thanks, but once again, i am amazed how fragile veeam agent really is.

that a .vbk is not really a full backup without a simple text file that is .vbm.

that veeam agent itself could not simply re-create the .vbm or that veeam, as a company, in all its years and decade(s) could not create an official powershell script.

or have the .vbk and .vib would contain a simple footer with the required information.

anyhoo, i cannot complain when using a free product.

Yes….we (cuz I’ve used it too at times) should be thankful a company which is out to make a profit off it’s technology, even offers some of its products for Free. As such, their Dev team spends most of their time on product function/features which bring them the most gain. But, their Free products contain most of what their paid products offer but at a far less scale of course. They even offer some of their tools (i.e. extract utility, etc) for free, albeit having to unpack the ISO to get them.

Except for running an Active Full...even in the paid product, I’m not sure you can recreate the metadata file in VBR even; not without Support help. Aside from Support that we suggested, you could post a feature request in the Forums@asdffdsa6132 . Maybe PMs can add the metadata rebuild function at some point

Best.
