I currently have a Veeam Backup & Replication v12 environment running on Windows Server. I have acquired a new server and plan to migrate my backup infrastructure to Veeam Software Appliance (VSA) v13 in order to benefit from immutability and the enhanced security features provided by the appliance.

I would appreciate it if you could share your experience and best practices regarding this migration.

Specifically, I am looking for guidance on the recommended procedure to migrate from Veeam Backup & Replication v12 on Windows Server to Veeam Software Appliance (VSA) v13, while preserving existing backup jobs, repositories, configuration, and historical backups.

Any feedback, lessons learned, or official migration steps would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your support.

You need to contact Support for the migration as they will review your logs and give you a key specifically for the migration along with instructions to prepare.

@JB-Mobio there is a kb for this https://www.veeam.com/kb4800! You need to be assist by Veeam !
Before to start :

  1.  Ensure that you have instance-based licenses (VUL)

If you are using CDP jobs, they will not be migrated and must be reconfigured manually after the migration is complete.

Currently, there is no self-service way to migrate. There might be one in the future. Therefore, you have to do it together with Veeam support.

Also pay attention with the upcoming 13.1 release. Currently, the migration is only supported from 13.0.2. So, once you upgraded to 13.1 in your Windows stack, you might be out of migration options for at least a while.
