Title: Understanding Available Restore Options in Veeam Cross-Platform Recovery

I would like to better understand the available restore options when using Veeam Cross-Platform Recovery (Cross-Hypervisor Restore).

Is there a way to identify all supported restore options when recovering a VM from one hypervisor to another?

For example:

  • Can I restore a VMware VM to Hyper-V?

  • Can I restore a VMware VM to Nutanix AHV?

  • Can I restore a Hyper-V VM to VMware?

  • Can I restore a VM to a different hypervisor while changing its CPU, RAM, disk configuration, and network settings?

I would also like to know:

  1. Which cross-hypervisor restore scenarios are officially supported?

  2. What are the limitations or prerequisites for each scenario?

  3. Is Instant Recovery supported for cross-hypervisor recovery, or is it necessary to perform a full VM restore?

  4. Where can I find a compatibility matrix showing the supported source and target hypervisors?

I would appreciate any documentation, guidance, or practical experience you can share.

Thank you.

Sadly...there is no clean documentation for this; like a table format or something.

When you look at the User Guide, and go into each “workload” > Data Recovery for <workload> > VM Recovery, it lists where you can recover to. But I agree. With all the added hypervisors Veeam has integrated, and all the features they’ve add & will continue to add per hypervisor, it would be most beneficial if Veeam could put recovery options in a clean, readable format. What I recommend is either reach out to the Technical Writer team by scrolling to the bottom of one of those areas of the User Guide and clicking the link to ‘Send Feedbak’

Or, maybe reach out to the Veeam Product Management team over on the Forums to offer a suggestion. But honestly...this is more for the Technical Writers imo. Or maybe it’s even a task for the Technicial Marketers like @Tyler Jurgens and @Matt Crape ?...who’ve done an amazing job with Veeam’s “feature comparison” doc.

Best.
