we have a Synology DS1621+ and im looking for some guidance on setting up and enabling immutable storage  and setting up a backup job.

i’ve looked on the net can’t really find anything.

we already backup into an offsite location but i am looking for something on prem as well, i’m trying to implement the 32110 rule for our school.

any help could be appreciated

Your best bet with this would be to set up an iSCSI target that you can connect to your hypervisor and then create a VM with at least one disk on the NAS for the repository drive.  Install the JeOS ISO to create an Immutable repository which will then use this drive for the backups.  You then add that to VBR as a repository server and point the backups there.

There is nothing native on the Synology you can do.  I have three of these myself and use iSCSI with VMware for this type of setup.

Another option would be, as you have a Plus model, use the embedded hypervisor in the Synology and create the Veeam Hardened Repository there.
It’s working, but keep in mind, if someone has admin access to your NAS, he can simply delete the whole VM.
