Hi everybody, currently we’re working with a customer who has build already 5yrs of retention with AvePoint. Migrating the backupchain from one to another product is in most cases not possible. Is anybody aware of the existence of ‘standby’ licenses where the customer pays less but has the ability to restore for a certain period without adding new points ? This gives him then the time to build op the retention on Veeam Backup for M365. It would be nice if we could create here a list of products / vendors who have such and option. (mostly not public available on their website) Then we can already now during onboarding what route we have to go.

If you contact the vendor I am sure they can work something out.  Then this will be the first one on the list.  😜

Don’t think this is possible. This is one of the disadvantages of Saas imo.

Most important (from my pov): Does the customer really need 5 years of retention? My thoughts on this:

Retentions of more than 1 year are often “archiving” which differs from backups. A backup should be declared as “disaster recovery component / mechanism” and archiving has a different approach. There you have to hold data e.g. for legal purposes for a few years (often up to 10-20 years) which is no longer DR - as I said: imo

Maybe you have to figure something out and “split” backup and archiving and have different tools and approaches for these.
