Restore ESXi Backup to Hyper-V Using Veeam?

Hello Veeam Community,

I have a question regarding cross-platform restore. If we have a backup of a VM running on VMware ESXi, can we restore that backup to a Microsoft Hyper-V environment using Veeam Backup & Replication?

Both environments are supported by Veeam, but I want to confirm if this type of restore is possible and what the recommended approach would be (e.g., direct restore, conversion, or any limitations).

Has anyone implemented this scenario successfully? Any best practices or considerations would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Hi @waqasali ,

You can restore VMs via Instant Recovery to a different hypervisor. I have already done that in the past without issues.

Regards

Chalid

Just as an FYI this topic has been covered many times and a quick search is always a good thing. 😉

Hi @Chris.Childerhose

Before posting here, I had already checked this topic, but most of the available information was in the German language. I also reviewed several discussions related to migrating from ESXi to other hypervisors. However, I posted here with the intention of having a deeper technical discussion on this topic. I appreciate your understanding.
