Problem with VeeamZip after upgrading to latest Community Edition 13.1.1.18

Hi,

i am using Community Edition of Backup and Replication.  In special i have been using a script to start Veeam ZIP to get a standalone full Backup. This has been working flawless for quite a while.

There has been Issues with Powershell in the past, so i have to start the batch explizit with the “new” powershell version. But this was about a year ago.

So i got a running Version of Backup an Replication (13.0.2.29) then i upgraded to 13.1.1.18 and Veeam ZIP stopped working with the following Error Message:  Error: Unable to cast object of type 'Veeam.Backup.Core.CFreeVmBackupTarget' to type 'Veeam.Backup.Core.CVmBackupTarget'.

I searched the Internet and have been finding very few users with the same problem. One of them provided two solutions: Revert back to functional version, or contact Support and get a hotfix to makle changes on DLL.

i do not want to revert back, because i think this is a greate Problem which has to be adressed by the support generally.

I filed a case by the Veeam Support, but after a week there is no help, because of the community version.

Server 2019, latest patch, ps version is 7.6.5.

Are there other users with the same problem or is there a simple workaround?

Regards

Hi @hh-it - Welcome to the Community. Hard to say what the issue is specifically. Veeam occasionally changes some of their PWSH cmdlets with new releases. 13.1 wasn’t a small release. They implemented some major changes. I’ve not heard of any PWSH changes personally, but that’s not to say there wasn’t any. Have you looked at the PWSH reference to make sure all your cmdlets are current? That’s the only suggestion I have aside from Support, which it seems you’ve already tried.

What’s New doc. See pg 40 on updated PWSH cmdlets:
https://www.veeam.com/veeam_backup_13_1_whats_new_wn.pdf

PWSH Reference:

https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/vbr/powershell/veeam_psreference.html?ver=13

Maybe someone else can chime in on a suggestion to steer you in the right direction.

Best.

Hi @hh-it! So far I haven’t seen any issues regarding VeeamZIP. Maybe you want to share your script here in the Community so that someone can verify it?

Hi all,

I’m very doubtful it’s about the PowerShell syntax or anything.

Checking internally with our support, I see there was indeed an issue with VeeamZip that ended up getting a hotfix, but hotfixes are only available to licenses with an active support maintenance contract.

The issue is flagged as resolved in 13.2, so regrettably for community edition you’ll need to wait for the update. If you're facing this issue on a license with an active support contract, then open a support case, be sure to include logs as Support will need to review and confirm the behavior before issuing a fix. You can mention internal KB  KB0076200 to help advance the case, but again you must include logs for Support to verify the behavior first.
